AFCON 2025: Super Eagles official denies Osimhen rift with squad

2025 CAF Awards: Osimhen in contention as Player of the Year nominees unveiled

Team administrator of the Super Eagles, Dayo Enebi Achor, has denied there is a rift involving Victor Osimhen in the squad at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Afrosport reports.

The Galatasaray star raised eyebrows in Monday’s 4-0 round of 16 win over Mozambique when he make angry gestures towards teammate Ademola Lookman. Osimhen subsequently turned to the bench and asked to be substituted, and was seen going to the dressing room hurriedly after the match, visibly looking upset.

It has led to reports that Osimhen will quit the team and take no further part in the competition. Achor, in a statement, however denied all those claims.

“There is no problem whatsoever in our camp,” he said.

“Whatever people saw as a crisis between two brothers was easily resolved a couple of hours later. All is good and we are presently at training,”

Achor also confirmed that Akor Adams has returned to the team after being given permission to leave the team and visit his mother in hospital.

“He took permission to go and see his mother who was hospitalised here in Fes, and returned in less than an hour,” he added.

Osimhen scored a brace against Mozambique while Lookman and Adams scored one goal each and also provided two assists to set up a quarter-final meeting with Algeria in Marrakech.
