AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: Tunisia FA sack coach Faouzi Benzarti after three months in charge

The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) on Tuesday terminated the appointment of head coach Faouzi Benzarti after just three months in charge, Afrosport reports.

The 74-year-old former Tunisian footballer have been reportedly dismissed due to the Carthage Eagles’ recent performances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers (AFCON).

Tunisia began their AFCON qualifying campaign on a high note with two wins in their opening two games. However, they only managed to get a point in the two matches they played this month, losing at home to Comoros before playing out a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture.

An official statement from the FTF confirmed that Benzarti’s contract termination was carried out by mutual agreement. The Tunisian FA expressed their gratitude to the experienced coach, who was in his fifth stint as the Carthage Eagles boss.

“The Tunisian Football Federation would like to thank Mr. Faouzi Benzarti for his services and efforts during his tenure as head coach of the national team and wishes him success in his future coaching career,” the statement reads.

Benzarti, who has over 40 years of coaching experience under his belt, managed two wins, a draw and one defeat with Tunisia.

The North African powerhouses will need to appoint a new coach or an interim one before next month’s AFCON qualifiers against Madagascar and Gambia, respectively, as they currently sit atop Group A with seven points.
