Super Eagles interim manager Augustine Eguavoen has hit out at Libya for their time-wasting tactics in the 1-0 win over the North Africans on Friday, Afrosport reports.
Nigeria were the better side for much of the contest in Uyo but were let down by resolute defending from the Mediterranean Knights and time-wasting tactics to see out the game.
A draw was going to be a favourable outcome for the Libyans but they were finally undone by Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s brilliant strike in the 86th minute of play.
Eguavoen praised Libya for their resilient spirit but did not find their time-wasting a good strategy, something goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali poked fun at.
“We have a time keeper also in the name of Thomas,” the ex-international said after the game.
“Actually they wasted like fourteen, fifteen minutes out of the 45 minutes which is not so good.
“They are a good side. You can see that they move the ball if they wanted to move, but now trying to bring such strategies, I don’t think it’s a good thing.”
The victory was the fourth for the Super Eagles in four head-to-head meetings with Libya. They will hope to make it a fifth in the return leg in Benina on Tuesday.
