AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: South Africa to host South Sudan at Cape Town Stadium

The South African Football Association (SAFA) has announced that the men’s national team, Bafana Bafana, will host South Sudan at the Cape Town Stadium in their final match in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Bafana Bafana will take on the Bright Stars at Mother City on Tuesday, November 19, in matchday six of the qualifying rounds, marking the team’s return to Cape Town for the first time since beating Angola in an international friendly match in 2015.

Dr Danny Jordaan, SAFA President, revealed this new development to the South African media on Friday, and confirmed that the match will kick off at 6pm local time.

“Yes, the game will be played at Cape Town Stadium, and we appeal to the fans to come out in numbers to provide a festive atmosphere for the team in this final Group K match,” Dr Jordaan said.

“A good crowd would be the perfect reward for a team that has withstood a tough qualifying campaign plagued by injuries to several key payers. It would also be the perfect tribute to those players.

Bafana Bafana are second in Group K with eight points, two behind group leaders Uganda, who they will visit on Friday, November 15, at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, before returning to take on South Sudan four days later.

South Africa’s head coach Hugo Broos named a 38-man preliminary squad last week and will announce the final 23-man shortlist for the two games in the coming days.
