AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: Man Utd’s Amad Diallo withdraws from Ivory Squad due to illness

Manchester United forward Amad Diallo will not feature for Ivory Coast in this month’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Afrosport reports.

The 22-year-old has reportedly withdrawn from the Ivorian squad to face Sierra Leone in a double-header due to illness, the Premier League club revealed on Wednesday.

Following a lengthy absence from the team, Diallo received his first national team call-up last month, having not featured for Ivory Coast since March 2023.

He represented the Elephants in their opening two AFCON 2025 qualifying matches as the reigning African champions recorded wins over Zambia and Chad.

Diallo, however, will now return to Manchester, with United to take on Brentford at Old Trafford in their next Premier League game after the international break.

The winger, who is now United’s second player to withdraw from the AFCON 2025 qualifiers after Noussair Mazaraoui pulled out of Morocco’s games, will not suit up when Ivory Coast takes on Sierra Leone in the space of for days.

The three-time AFCON winners will host the Leone Stars at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro on Friday, October 11, before heading to the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Liberia, Sierra Leone’s makeshift home ground, for the return fixture on Tuesday, October 15.
