AFCON 2025 qualifiers: Liberia defeats Togo, Namibia holds Cameroon to a draw

Liberia recorded a 1-0  Group E win ove Togo in Monrovia in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Thursday, Afrosport reports.

Kodjo Laba and Kevin Denkey’s attacking efforts for the Togolese were consistently thwarted by Liberia’s goalkeeper and defense.

However, in the 83rd minute, Togo’s captain, Djene Dakonam, handled the ball in the penalty area which was ruled for a penalty and Mohammed Sangare calmly slotted into the bottom left corner to give the Lone Stars all three points.

The win moves Thomas Kojo’s side up to third in Group E with four points, while Togo drops to the bottom with two points.

At the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan, Chad and Sierra Leone battled to a 1-1 draw in Group G.

Sierra Leone initially took the lead when Abu Dumbuya found the back of the net with a powerful shot from outside the box that sailed into the top left corner of the post in the 29th minute.

Five minutes later, the referee awarded a penalty for Chad after Marius Mouandilmadji was fouled in the penalty area.

Mahamat Thiam converted the penalty by sending the ball into the top left corner to level the score at 1-1 at fulltime.

Sierra Leone remains in third place in Group G,
with five points from five games, while Chad sits at the bottom with three points.

Elsewhere, Group J leader Cameroon held Namibia to a goalless draw at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg.

The already-qualified Indomitable Lions and the already-eliminated Brave Warriors failed to break the deadlock despite some close attempts during the game.
