The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have announced that Augustine Eguavoen will continue as Super Eagles interim manager for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Libya next month, Afrosport reports.
The ex-international was in charge of the Eagles’ opening two fixtures against Benin and Rwanda last month, which ended in a 3-0 win and 0-0 draw respectively.
There had been doubts over whether Eguavoen will continue to lead the national team after reports surfaced after the September international break that he had stepped down from his role which he debunked.
The NFF have now confirmed his presence in the dugout for the upcoming fixtures along with the same coaching crew that included Enugu Rangers boss Fidelis Ilechukwu and his Remo Stars counterpart Daniel Ogunmodede.
Eguavoen and his crew will also be in charge of the Eagles’ qualification campaign for the 2024 African Nations Championship later this month.
“The Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Federation on Thursday approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee for the Federation’s Technical Director, Coach Augustine Eguavoen to continue in his role as Head Coach of the Super Eagles, and lead the team in its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Libya next month,” read a statement on the NFF’s Instagram handle.
“…Eguavoen and the current technical crew that also includes Fidelis Ilechukwu, Daniel Ogunmodede, Olatunji Baruwa and Tomaz Zorec will also take charge of the Super Eagles B team for the qualifying campaign for next year’s African Nations Championship, otherwise known as CHAN.”
The Super Eagles will first take on Libya on October 11 in Uyo before travelling to Benina for the return leg four days later.
