AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: CAF selects Egyptian officials for Nigeria, Benin Republic clash

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has selected Egyptian official Amin Mohamed Omar as the referee for Nigeria’s upcoming match against Benin Republic in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Uyo next Saturday.

The 38-year-old, who has been a FIFA referee since 2017, made his debut in the Egyptian Premier League in 2013. He officiated AFCON 2023 opening match between Ivory Coast and Guinea Bissau at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe.

Omar will be flanked on both sides by his countrymen Mahmoud Abouelregal, Ahmad Hossam Taha, and Ahmed ElGhandour, who have all been chosen as Assistant Referee 1, Assistant Referee 2, and Fourth Official, respectively.

CAF also appointed Munkaila Nassam Adam from Ghana as Match Commissioner, while Senegal’s Fatou Gaye and Ivorian Atte Claude Elloh were referee assessors and security officers, respectively.

The Super Eagles, three-time AFCON winners, are up against Benin, who are coached by former Nigeria head coach Gernot Rohr.

The match, which is stated for the infamous Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, will be the first game on the sidelines for newly-appointed Nigeria coach Bruno Labbadia.
