AFCON 2025: Hosts Morocco see off Cameroon to reach semi-finals

Hosts of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco, booked their spot in the semi-finals following their 2-0 quarter-final win over Cameroon in Rabat on Friday, Afrosport reports.

The Atlas Lions recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win over Tanzania in the round of 16 while the Indomitable Lions got the better of South Africa.

Walid Regragui’s side have been pumped up all tournament, with massive home support behind them, and were ahead after 26 minutes at Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah when Real Madrid star Brahim Diaz headed in Ayoub El Kaabi’s ball for his fifth goal of the competition.

Morocco remained in control of the tie and doubled their lead in the 74th minute when PSV Eindhoven’s Ismael Saibari fired in superb strike into the far corner of the net.

The North African giants are in the AFCON semi-finals for just the sixth time in their history and for the first time since 2004, and will face either Nigeria or neighbours Algeria for a place in the final.
