The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed a staggering 90% increase in commercial revenue for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, describing it as the most successful commercial story in African football history, Afrosport reports.
The African football governing body in a statement on Friday attributed this increase due to commercial partners and distribution of media rights into new markets, notably Asia.
The commercial portfolio of AFCON has nearly tripped since the 2021 tournament in Cameroon.
“The growth has been matched by a steady expansion of the sponsor portfolio, with the number of commercial partners increasing from nine during the 2021 tournament to 17 at the finals in the Ivory Coast in 2023,” read a CAF statement.
“For the 2025 edition in Morocco, CAF has continued to attract more partners and now has 23 sponsors.
“This expansion reflects both the attraction of new global brands and the retention of existing partners, for whom the Afcon has been an excellent return on investment.”
