Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa affirmed that Nigerians deserve the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations because of the happiness and unity it brings with it.
Nigeria are targeting a fourth AFCON trophy when they battle Ivory Coast in Sunday’s final game at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpe.
The last time the Super Eagles lifted the continental title was in South Africa 2013 and they are gearing up for their eighth appearance in an AFCON final match.
Kenneth Omeruo and Musa were among the victorious Super Eagles team that lifted the title 11 years ago and he disclosed that Jose Peseiro’s squad are ready to etch their names in history on Sunday.
“We are very focused as a team, and we will be executing our abilities as expected”, the Sivasspor winger said.
“We’re ready as a team to deliver for the fans. The most important thing is for us to win the tournament because we are the most deserving as of now to win it. The Nigerian community deserves the happiness and unity that come with becoming champions of the Nations Cup.”
Peseiro, meanwhile, highlighted the importance of the 31-year-old to his team even though he has not played a minute of football at the ongoing tournament.
“Ahmed is much more than a player. He helps us a lot,” the Portuguese coach said. “He advises and informs me about many things. Up to now, he has done so many things.
“He has won the AFCON. He is the captain and I want to win the AFCON tomorrow so I can see Ahmed lift this cup.”
