AFCON 2023: West Ham boss Moyes prepares for life without Kudus

West Ham United manager David Moyes has been making plans for life without Mohammed Kudus as he prepares the represent the Ghana national team at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in January.

The 23-year-old has been in top form for the Hammers since joining from Dutch giants Ajax in the summer, scoring five goals in 14 competitive appearances.

Kudus is however one of a host of African stars in the Premier League that will depart for the tournament in the Ivory Coast with the possibility Moyes might bring some reinforcement in the January transfer window in their absence.

“Bits of his play have been very, very good. I’m looking for him [Kudus] to be more creative,” Moyes said

“Mo has made a big impact and he’s settling into the Premier League. He’s got a few goals and I think the crowd know how well he’s doing.

“We have been talking about it and three or four players possibly going away, but I don’t know if it will mean we sign more players [in January]. We’ll work out how many games they will potentially miss and plan from there.”

Kudus featured in West Ham’s narrow 1-0 Europa League win over Olympiacos on Thursday and will be looking ahead to the home tie with Nottingham Forest on Sunday before the commencement of the international break where Ghana take on Madagascar and Comoros in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
