Tanzania head coach Adel Amrouche has been handed an eight-game suspension by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) disciplinary committee as punishment for insulting remarks about Morocco.
The Algerian tactician was found guilty of accusing Morocco of influencing match schedules and the appointment of referees by CAF>
The Tanzanian Football Federation confirmed Amoruche’s suspension by CAF and they have appointed Hemed Morocco has acting coach for the rest of their games at the Africa Cup of Nations and Juma Mgunda will be the assistant coach.
Ahead of the Taifa Stars’ 3-0 loss to Morocco on Wednesday, Amrouche told an Algerian TV station: “The Morocco Federation is a proven power in the world of African football. Morocco manages African football. They also choose their referees and we remain simple spectators.
“For example, during the match between us and Morocco in the World Cup qualifiers in November we asked to play at 2pm but CAF scheduled the match for evening.”
Tanzania will look to bounce back from their opening loss to Morocco when they face Zambia in their next Group F fixture on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Algeria and Morocco have had a frosty relationship in recent times with the border between the two North African countries closed.
Their political rivalry was split into the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in January 2023 with Morocco boycotting the tournament due to the closed airspace for Moroccan flights in Algeria.
