Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro stated the team deserves to be in the final after defeating South Africa on penalties in Wednesday’s semi-final in Bouake.
The game ended 1-1 after extra time and Stanley Nwabali stopped two penalties in the shootout which proved vital in sending Nigeria to their eighth AFCON final where they will tackle hosts Ivory Coast in a rematch of their Group A encounter.
Peseiro however did not stop short of giving South Africa credit, citing the difficulty in trying to get the victory over them.
“The players deserve to be in the finals, it’s a very good victory against a good team. I said it earlier that South Africa have the best of organisation because they play together and they created more problems for us. It was very difficult to beat them,” Peseiro said after the game.
“I think it was very difficult to beat them. Huge congratulations to Hugo Broos, who put this team together. They played well.”

The AFCON 2023 final represents Peseiro the chance to win the first international title of his managerial career.
