Chippa United chairman Siviwe Chippa Mpengesi has declared his support for Stanley Nwabali ahead of Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final match with South Africa on Wednesday.
Nwabali has been one of the stars of the tournament in Ivory Coast with his stable performances between the sticks warming the hearts of Nigerian fans.
It is also seen as a plus for modest outfit Chippa United where Nwabali plays his club football for.
It was expected that Mpengesi would get his support behind his country South Africa who are aiming to reach the AFCON final for the first time in 26 years. He is however sticking with Nigeria because of Nwabali
“As the Chairman of Chippa United FC and as a proud South African, I find myself in a unique position during this 2023 AFCON toumament in that our very own Nigeria international Stanley Nwabali has been a revelation; his performance for the Nigerian National Team has caught the eyes of the globe, earning him and our club intemational acclaim,” Mpengesi said in a statement posted on X.
“With Stanley’s rising profile and the international attention it brings to Chippa United FC, the benefits have been nothing but positive. Therefore, I and Chippa United FC stand behind our player Stanley Nwabali and the Nigerian Super Eagles tomorrow against South Africa Bafana Bafana. We wish the Super Eagles all the best.”

Nwabali has been ever-present for Chippa United this season, playing all but one PSL game.
Chippa occupy 13th place on the table, five points away from the relegation/promotion playoff spot.
