AFCON 2023: South Africa coach Broos praises home-based players for beating Morocco

South Africa have shifted attention to their semi-final match against Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Hugo Broos disclosed that his team will their recovery session in time after their hard-fought penalty shoot-out win against Cape Verde on Saturday.

Bafana Bafana played 120 minutes of football without scoring and had to wait for penalty shoot-out to edge the Blue Sharks 2-1.

Broos is anticipating a different semi-final game against the Super Eagles who boast of an array of talented players and the best defensive record in the competition.

“The semi-final match will be different against Nigeria, which has good players like Lookman,” Broos said.

“We will not lose focus. The players will be in good condition, so we need to rest and recover to start our preparation.”

The last AFCON semi-final game between Nigeria and South Africa ended in a 2-0 win, in favour of the former with a brace from Tijani Babangida.

Their last competitive game was at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt which the Super Eagles won 2-1.
