Sierra Leone captain Steve Caulker is a major doubt for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Nigeria on June 18.
Caulker shared a picture update of himself on Saturday after a successful knee surgery.
The former Tottenham Hotspur defender ended his 2022-23 season in the Championship with Wigan Athletic after terminating his contract with Turkish Super Lig club Fatih Karagumruk in December 2022.
Caulker, born in England to a Sierra Leone father and Scottish mother, has been a regular in the Sierra Leone national team since he pledged his international allegiance in December 2021.
He has played every minute of the Leone Stars’ qualifying fixtures as they aspire for a fourth appearance in the Africa Cup of Nations in January 2024.
Sierra Leone will host the Super Eagles for matchday 5 of the qualifiers next month at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Stadium in Liberia.
Nigeria lead Group A of the qualifiers with nine points after four games, followed by Guinea-Bissau with seven points while Sierra Leone sit third with five points after the same number of games.
