AFCON 2023 Qualifiers: Boost for Super Eagles as Akwa Ibom Governor buys 30,000 tickets

In his show of support for Nigeria’s final 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game against Sao Tome and Principe, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has bought a total of 30,000 tickets for football enthusiasts in the state.

Governor Eno initially bought 5,000 tickets for football-loving individuals in Akwa Ibom State but he added 25,000 tickets after hosting Jose Peseiro’s team in Uyo, the state capital on Friday.

Nigeria will host Sao Tome and Principe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Sunday as they seek to cement their status as Group A leaders.

A statement by Commissioner of Youth Development and Sports in Akwa Ibom State, Sir Monday Ebong Uko urged fans not to buy tickets and to be at Godswill Akpabio Stadium before 4pm on Sunday for free entry.

A part of the statement read: “All 30,000 tickets for the match are therefore to be issued FREE to all spectators to access the stadium for the match. No one should BUY tickets for the match.

“If you are unable to get a ticket before the match day, you are advised to come to the Stadium before 4:00pm and be issued a free ticket at the gate.”

Nigeria defeated Sao Tome and Principe 10-0 in the first leg of the qualifying fixture that took in Morocco in June 2022.
