Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro is optimistic about his team’s chances of winning their opening match against Equatorial Guinea at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
The three-time African champions are looking to extend their winning streak against the National Thunder to four matches having won all previous three games between the both countries.
The Portuguese tactician disclosed that the Super Eagles need to be hungry for victory to get their campaign off to a flying start at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpe on Sunday.
“I believe in my team. Every team has what you may call frail areas, but the important thing is for the players to play for one another. We are positive.” Peseiro told the NFF media.
“It is a 90-minute affair and it is always about who wants a win most. I have a group that has determination and discipline, flair and steel, and we believe we can go all the way in this tournament.”
The 63-year-old also gave an update on the arrivals on Kelechi Iheanacho, Terem Moffi and Paul Onuachu who are yet to participate in any of the Super Eagles’ training sessions so far.
He said: “About Kelechi, we spoke with Leicester for him to do the treatment and recovery there because Leicester have good conditions for recovery. He arrived this morning 4 am. He’s completely recovered was the information I received from the technical staff and medical staff from Leicester.
“About Boniface’s injury, Moffi arrives tomorrow 8 pm. Sadiq injury also, Onuachu arrived this morning at 4 am.
“Not good for them (the injured players) because they wanted to play in this competition. Sometimes they fight the clubs to come. Of course the European clubs prefer they stay back than come.”
