Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has lavished praise on reigning African Footballer of the Year Victor Osimhen for his impact in Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Cameroon at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Osimhen played a crucial role in the attack as Ademola Lookman fired two goals to secure Nigeria’s progress to the quarter-final in Abidjan on Saturday.
The Napoli striker laid the assist for Lookman’s opening goal in the 35th minute after putting pressure on Cameroon defender Oumar Gonzalez.
He also proved to be a threat to the opposition’s defence in aerial duels and counter-attacking moves.
Oliseh wrote on X: “Victor Osimhen! Victor Osimhen!! Extremely impressed not only by his offensive runs ,defensive work but even on cornerskicks against, tormenting of the Cameroonian defence, but mostly by his leadership and hunger to win! Bravo to our African Ballon D’or.”
Osimhen, however, could not add to his tally in Ivory Coast since he scored the equaliser in Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea.
The 25-year-old is expected to lead the Super Eagles’ frontline when they face Angola in the quarter-final on Friday.
