Emilio Nsue found the back of the net three times as Equatorial Guinea defeated Guinea-Bissau 4-2 in their second 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Group B match at Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan on Thursday afternoon.
The National Thunder played out a 1-1 draw with 2013 AFCON champions Nigeria in their group opener while the Djurtus were beaten 2-0 by 2023 AFCON hosts Ivory Coast.
Nsue got things off in the 21st minute with a well-executed finish off a pass from Pablo Ganet. Guinea-Bissau were however level 16 minutes later with Esteban Orozco putting the ball into his own net.
Josete Miranda reestablished Equatorial Guinea’s lead at the restart following a defensive error before Nsue added a brace in the 51st and 61st minute to complete his hat-trick.

Ze Turbo scored in added time but it was no more than a consolation for Guinea-Bissau who’s qualification hopes are now hanging by a thread with their final group game to come against Nigeria while the Equatorial Guineans will hope to book their spot in the knockout round for the fourth time when they face Ivory Coast.
