AFCON 2023: No Nigerian as CAF calls up 68 match officials to Ivory Coast

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that 68 match officials will be involved in officiating dutiea at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast.

The 68 officials include 26 referees, 30 assistant referees and 12 Video Assistant Referee officials.

Unfortunately, no official from Nigeria made the cut but five female referees are in contention to officiate in the 34th edition of the AFCON.

The officials list is dominated by referees from Morocco, Egypt and Algeria, and Karboubi Bouchra of Morocco is the only referee while Mukansanga Salima Rhadia of Rwanda, Akhona Zennith Makalima of South Africa and  Rivet Maria Pakuita Cinquela of Mauritius are the female VAR referees.

Cameroon’s Carine Atezambong is the only female assistant referee that’s summoned.

The 68 officials have been mandated to report to the Ivory Coast  on/before January 5 for a refresher course which will be inclusive of physical and theoretical tests.  

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will begin from January 13 to February 11.
