The quarter-final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations is set to begin on Friday, February 2 with a fixture between Nigeria and Angola in Abidjan.

The two teams have their sights set on a semi-final place with the winner to face either South Africa or Cape Verde in the last-four.

Group A runners-up, Nigeria made it into the quarter-final after beating Cameroon 2-0 while Group D leaders Angola made light work of Namibia with a 3-0 triumph.

When is the game between Nigeria and Angola?

Nigeria will face the Sable Black Antelopes of Angola on Friday, February 2 at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan. The game is scheduled to kick-off by 6 PM (Nigerian time).

Nigeria vs Angola historical perspective

Angola have never made it beyond the quarter-final stage of the Africa Cup of Nations (2008, 2010 and 2023) while Nigeria are three-time champions and they are gunning for a first AFCON trophy since 2013.

Nigeria and Angola have played each other previously on 10 occasions with the most recent being at the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) that ended 2-1 in favour of the Super Eagles B.

Angola’s last win against Nigeria was during the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Luanda. The Super Eagles remain the dominant side in head-to-head record with three wins, and five draws while the Sable Black Antelopes have two wins.

The first game between both countries was an international friendly game in April 1981 that ended in a goalless draw.
