President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe has confirmed the presence of Nigeria President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final match in Abidjan on Sunday.

Nigeria will battle host country, Ivory Coast for the coveted trophy they last won in 2013 and a fourth crown for the country.

President Tinubu has actively followed the Super Eagles’ progress to the final even when he was away in France on a private visit.

The president sent a delegation led by his vice, Senator Kashim Shettima alongside Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State to cheer Jose Peseiro’s men to victory over South Africa in the semi-final on Wednesday.

CAF President Motsepe, at a press conference on Friday, was asked about the chances of an African country to host the FIFA World Cup on Friday and he said, “Nigeria must put in a bid. The Nigerian president (Bola Tinubu) is coming to watch the final on Sunday. I will have a conversation with him about it.”

Nigeria are yet to host an international football competition since they hosted the FIFA U17 World Cup in 2009.

They submitted a joint bid alongside Benin to stage the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations but they lost to the East African trio of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
