Ivory Coast began the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as hosts with a 2-0 Group A win over Guinea-Bissau at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on Saturday night.
The Elephants are looking to win a third AFCON title after previous success in 1992 and 2015 and started the game in fine fashion when Al Nassr midfielder Seko Fofana drilled in a fierce shot in the fourth minute that left Guinea-Bissau goalkeeper Ouparine Djoco no chance of stopping.
The Ivorians controlled the game from that moment and doubled their lead in the 58th minute thanks to Jean-Philippe Krasso’s magic. The Red Star Belgrade forward took two brilliant touches on the ball before sending a half volley into the back of the net.

The victory gives Jean-Louis Gasset’s side early control of Group A and will next tackle Nigeria, who face Equatorial Guinea still in Abidjan on Sunday.
