Cameroon coach Rigobert Song said he has a plan already in place for their opening match against Guinea at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations that starts on January 13.
The Indomitable Lions will begin their quest for a sixth AFCON crown on January 15 against the Syli National of Guinea at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro.
Cameroon and Guinea have faced each other on 19 different occasions with the former being the dominant side with seven wins while seven other games ended in draws.
After releasing his 27-man squad for the tournament on Thursday, Song disclosed that he has concluded on the game plan for their opening game even as they prepare to start their training camp in Saudi Arabia this weekend.
“I think the game system depends first on the opponents,” Song told the media. “I can confirm today that I already have the game system that I will set up during the first game because we know our opponents.
“We know how they play. Today I know how to approach my first game, with which system I want to play… I’d say we’re not going to a competition with one gun. So having two systems, it adapts with the opponents.”
Song led Cameroon to a third-place finish at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil after seeing off Burkina Faso on penalties.
