AFCON 2023: Cameroon coach Song admits pressure ahead of Nigeria clash

AFCON 2023: Song acknowledges difficult Cameroon start after draw with Guinea

Cameroon coach Rigobert Song said he is under pressure ahead of the round of 16 game against Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Indomitable Lions scaled into the knockout phase of the competition after finishing as runners-up in Group C behind Senegal.

Cameroon had a nervy finish to their group outing with a late winner in their 3-2 defeat of The Gambia.

Song has come under heavy scrutiny for the Indomitable Lions’ performance in Ivory Coast but he believes his player will get the job done at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium.

“I’ve experienced pressure since I was very young. I’ve known it, pressure, as a player,” he told the media. “It’s part of the game; you win, you’re strong but you lose, you’re bad.

“I don’t panic, I don’t stress. I listen, I understand the criticism, I know what I have to do, I stay calm. My players know me, I simply tell them, ‘do your job’. I trust my players, we’ll get there.”

Cameroon won bronze at the 2021 AFCON on home soil and they are aiming for a better finish in the Ivory Coast.
