Sudan renewed their hopes of reaching the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 with a 1-0 win over Equatorial Guinea in their Group E encounter in Casablanca on Sunday, Afrosport reports.
The Falcons of Jediane lost 3-0 to Algeria in their opener, while the National Thunder lost 2-1 to Burkina Faso.
The game saw very little action, though Equatorial Guinea were the more dominant side. They failed to make anything meaningful with their chances and paid dearly for it with 16 minutes from time when a Sudan free kick deflected off Torino defender Saul Coco and went into the net as an own goal.
Sudan were able to hold for the win, which was their first AFCON victory since the 2012 tournament in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

They also now stand a chance to reach the knockout phase for the first time since 1970, when they won the competition on home soil, and will battle Burkina Faso in their final group game in Casablanca on Wednesday, while Equatorial Guinea have been eliminated and will play for pride when they battle Algeria in Rabat.
