Adana Demirspor chairman Bedirhan Durak on Monday announced his resignation following the incident that ensued in their Super Lig clash against Galatasaray at RAMS Park on Saturday, Afrosport reports.
Adana Demirspor players decided to walk off the pitch 30 minutes into their match at league leaders Galatasaray after trailing 1-0 to an Alvaro Morata penalty.
“I now sadly see that we have reached a deadlock. For the sake of my club, my family, my loved ones, and my health, I hereby announce my resignation from the presidency,” Durak said in a statement on Instagram.
The match, however, was abandoned, with club officials confirming that the decision to walk off was in protest against Turkey’s referees committee and football federation.
Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk, in an interview after the game was abandoned, acknowledged that the penalty could have been an incorrect decision.
A decision has yet to be taken on the game, but Adana Demirspor remains bottom of the Turkish Super Lig with five points, while Galatasaray sits atop the standings with 57 points.
