Marathon enthusiasts and registered athletes for the Abuja International Marathon are getting ready for this weekend’s long-distance race at the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja by visiting the Marathon Expo.
The Expo activities started on Friday at the Pavillion with runners from Kogi State, Niger State, Nasarrawa State and Kaduna State picking up their race kits while the marathon enthusiasts shop for sports wears and more.
Race Director, Olukayode Thomas confirmed that registration for the maiden marathon in FCT is free and it will close on Friday, 28th of April, a day before the race.
Meanwhile, a registered participant, Grace Bassey is excited about the opportunity to be part of history in the first edition of the international event alongside her friends.
She said: “History will be made on April 29, 2023, when the first international marathon will take place in FCT, I have never missed an opportunity to be part of history that was why I come here early to collect my kits, I don’t want to hear stories that the kits have finished. I will be running the 10km with my friends.”
The Abuja International Marathon will begin at the City Gate and end at the Eagle Square with three categories that include 5km student run, 10km family run and the 42km full marathon.
