Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first-ever individual to amass 500 million followers on social media platform, Instagram.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner reached the milestone, just days after he came under scrutiny for his explosive interview with British media celebrity, Piers Morgan.
Ronaldo became the most followed male on Instagram in February, he has now cemented his position as the most followed user [male or female] on the platform.
With 500 million followers, the Portugal international follows just 523 people in return with a total of 3,397 posts. His arch-rival in football, Argentina’s Lionel Messi trails in second place with a total following of 376 million and a total of 948 posts.
The 37-year-old is currently away with Portugal at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and is hoping to add the prestigious trophy to a long list of silverware at his disposal.
Portugal will kick off their World Cup campaign against Ghana on Thursday at the Stadium 974 in Ras Abu Abuod.
