Home-based Super Eagles suffered a 2-0 defeat against Costa Rica in an international friendly match that took place in San Jose on Thursday morning.
Nigeria were led by assistant coach Salisu Yusuf and the team was dominated by players of the Nigeria Professional Football League with goalkeeper Kayode Bankole wearing the captain’s armband.
Former Arsenal winger Joel Campbell stood out for Los Ticos with an assist in each half that fired the host country to victory.
Campbell linked up with Oscar Duarte for the opening goal in the seventh minute and he later assisted Kendall Waston to double Costa Rica’s lead in the 73rd minute.
Nigeria are yet to win an international game since their 10-0 thrashing of Sao Tome & Principe in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in June.
Next up for Jose Peseiro’s Super Eagles is another friendly outing against World Cup-bound Portugal on November 17.
Costa Rica are billed to play Iraq in their final warm-up game on November 17 before opening their 2022 World Cup campaign against Spain on November 23.
