Ajax left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko has been ruled out for the rest of the season after picking up a knee injury that will require surgery, Afrosport reports.
The 29-year-old Ukrainian, who joined from Ajax on a short term deal, suffered the injury in the third minute of Saturday’s 4-1 Eredivisie win over Fortuna Sittard after he was fouled by Dimitris Limnios.
The injury also implies that Zinchenko will miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Ukraine, who were drawn against Sweden and Poland/Albania in next month’s qualification play-offs.
“Examination at the hospital has shown that surgery is required. This will take place in the near future,” read a club statement.
“The 29-year-old Ukraine international will then face a lengthy rehabilitation period, which means he will not play again this season.”
Oleksandr Zinchenko has been ruled out for an extended period.
Get well soon, Zinny ♥️

Zinchenko joined Ajax from Arsenal at the end of the January transfer window, signing a deal that runs until the end of June.
It is not yet known whether the Dutch giants will renew his contract as he plays no further part in this season.
They are currently in third in the Eredivisie, standings, 17 points behind league leaders and fierce rivals PSV Eindhoven.
