Michael Carrick has been awarded as the Premier League Manager of the Month for January after a blistering start to life as interim boss of Manchester United, Afrosport reports.
The former Red Devils player took over from Ruben Amorim last month until the end of the season and kicked off with wins against rivals Manchester City and Arsenal which moved them into the top four.
Carrick is the second United interim boss to win the award after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did in January 2019 while he is one of seven interim bosses to win it.
He won the award ahead of former Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola and Chelsea’s Liam Rosenior.

“It’s nice and it shows that we’ve had a very good start, you know, but let’s be honest, it’s not just about me really,” Carrick told the club website.
“I think it’s about everyone, you know: it’s about the staff, the coaching staff, the backroom staff, the players definitely.
“It shows that we’ve had a good start, which is very pleasing.”
Meanwhile, Brentford striker Igor Thiago won the Player of the Month for the second time this season after scoring five goals in January which extended his season tally to 17 goals, second only behind Manchester City talisman Erling Haaland.
It also moved Brentford up to seventh in the league standings.
