Arsenal fail to extend lead with draw at Brentford

Arsenal failed to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League standings after a 1-1 draw at Brentford on Thursday, Afrosport reports.

Manchester City had closed the gap on the Gunners after their 3-0 win at Fulham on Wednesday.

The first half at the Gtech Community Stadium was a goalless affair, with the Bees limiting Mikel Arteta’s side from having a shot on target.

The North London outfit were however not going to be denied the opening goal just past the hour mark when Piero Hincapie’s cross found the head of Noni Madueke to finish off the rest.

Arsenal’s lead did not last long as Brentford levelled 10 minutes later thanks to Keane Lewis-Potter who headed in a flicked ball from Sepp van den Berg as a result of a trademark long-throw from Italian-Nigerian full-back Michael Kayode.

Arteta’s men will hope to extend their lead when they travel to bottom club Wolverhampton Wanderers in a rescheduled fixture next Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Keith Andrews’ side remain in the seventh on the table, five points away from the top four.
