Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has parted ways with Chippa United by mutual consent, Afrosport reports.
The 29-year-old joined Chippa United from Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Katsina United in 2022 and made a name for himself in the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL), making 66 top flight appearances and 76 in all competitions, keeping a total of 25 clean sheets.
Nwabali gained global attention when he made his debut for the Nigeria national team ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where he starred as they reached the final but lost to the tournament hosts.
Chippa United made headlines when they threw their support behind Nwabali for the semi-final against South Africa, a move that was not well reviewed by Bafana Bafana fans.
“Chippa United FC confirms that Stanley Nwabali has formally submitted a request to depart the club,” the club said in a statement.
“After careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release. We would like to thank Stanley for the years of service, commitment and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United.
“His contribution to the club will always be appreciated. The club wishes Stanley every success in the next chapter of his career and all future endeavours.”
