Manchester United are interested in restarting talks with Kobbie Mainoo over a new contract with his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2027, Afrosport reports.
The 20-year-old England midfielder of Ghanaian heritage has the option of a further year on his existing contract, it is however yet to be seen if he will commit his future at Old Trafford having been denied a move last summer.
Mainoo failed to nail a place in the United starting XI this season under former head coach Ruben Amorim, failing to start in the Premier League. However, after the Portuguese tactician’s dismissal, he started the FA Cup third round defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion and last weekend’s derby triumph over cross-town rivals Manchester City.
His current deal was signed in 2023 during his breakout season under Erik ten Hag. He went on to be an instrumental figure under the Dutch manager which earned him an England call-up and a participation at the Euro 2024 championship in Germany where he was key in the Three Lions reaching the final before losing to Spain.
