AFCON 2025: Morocco coach Regragui breaks silence on Diaz penalty miss

Morocco head coach Walid Regragui attributed Brahim Diaz’s missed penalty in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final against Senegal to being “disturbed”, Afrosport reports.

Diaz had the chance to secure victory for the hosts in the final moments, but after a 17-minute protest delay, his weak panenka attempt was saved by Eduoard Mendy.

The miss sparked speculation about the penalty’s circumstances, but Regragui stated that the extended wait likely affected Diaz’s focus, adding, “We can’t change the past; we must move forward.”

Diaz was awarded the golden boot as top scorer, scoring five goals in seven matches, finished ahead of Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah (four goals each).
