AFCON 2025: Oshoala questions CAF’s preference for Morocco

Super Falcons star Oshoala completes Al-Hilal transfer from Bay FC

Six-time Africa Women’s Player of the Year, Asisat Oshoala, has criticised the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for what she perceives as a tendency to favor Morocco when selecting hosts for major tournaments, Afrosport reports.

Oshoala has expressed doubts about CAF’s impartiality, suggesting that the organisation seems to be rewarding Morocco for undisclosed reasons.

She condemned the repeated decision to assign nearly all major continental tournaments to Morocco, implying that it creates the perception that no other African country possesses the necessary facilities to host such competitions.

“The big question here is when will this whole CAF compensation Morocco end. Award tournaments all…..it’s getting boring now,” the Al-Hilal foward said in a post on X.

“We need other countries to step up. Everything concerning African football happens in Morocco, feels like that’s the new HQ.”

Morocco is hosting the current 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and will host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.

The North African country has hosted the 2022 and 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, and will host the 2026 edition.

It has also hosted various age-grade AFCON tournaments in recent times.
