AFCON 2025: Senegal squeeze past 10-man Mali to book semi-final spot

Senegal triumphed over 10-man Mali with a narrow 1-0 win at the Grand Stade de Tanger in Tangier on Friday, advancing to semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Afrosport reports.

Iliman Ndiaye netted the only goal in the 27th minute, which proved to be the decisive factor in the quarter-final match.

Following a red card issued to midfielder Yves Bissouma during stoppage time of the first half, Mali found themselves on the defensive, struggling to equalise.

Next Wednesday, Senegal will face the winner of the quarterfinal clash between Egypt and Ivory Coast in the semifinals.

The Lions of Teranga are striving to secure their second AFCON title, having won their first in the 2021 edition in Cameroon.

Senegal’s victory extends their unbeaten run at AFCON to 16 matches, winning 11 and drawing the other five.

Only once has a team gone on a longer unbeaten run in this tournament, Egypt’s 24-match run between 2004 and 2017.
