Former Chelsea player Kenneth Omeruo has backed the club’s young squad for further success in future, Afrosport reports.
The West London outfit has opted for signing young players usually under the age of 25 since the consortium led by American Todd Boehly purchased the club from Roman Abramovich in 2022.
The Blues have since won the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup under Enzo Maresca, who parted ways with the club on New Year’s Day.
Liam Rosenior has since been appointed from sister club Strasbourg, and there is a sense that policy and having young coaches as well, will continue under this ownership, which according to Omeruo will build their experience.
“I think when they started the project, the plan was to build, build, build something that will last a long time,” the Nigerian defender told Afrosport.
“And that’s why there was a long contract and all that, you know, And I think it’s pain of they might not have the experience, you know, but I think people and experience comes with games. So the more you play games, I think the experience will come.”

Chelsea have fallen in the race for the Premier League title as they 17 points behind fierce rivals Arsenal. They are however just two points away from automatic qualification in the UEFA Champions League with two rounds to go in the league phase.
Omeruo believes they have a good shot at the title with the likes of Barcelona, whom they thumped 3-0 at Stamford back in November.
“Their chances is as good as Barcelona. I think their chances are as big as every other club in the Champions League,” he said.
“It’s still very much open, you know, and before you know it, there could be surprises and then it gets them to, you know, closer to winning.”
Omeruo was on the books of Chelsea between 2012 and 2019 but failed to make an appearance and rather spent time on loan at ADO Den Haag, Middlesbrough, Kasimpasa, Alanyaspor and Leganes. He is currently on the books of Romanian giants CFR Cluj
