The Super Eagles secured their place in the round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a thrilling 3–2 victory over Tunisia in their second Group C match at the Stade de Fes on Saturday, Afrosport reports.
What looked set to be a comfortable evening for Nigeria turned tense in the closing stages, as Tunisia mounted a late comeback that fell just short.
Goals from Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman had put the Super Eagles firmly in control before two quick Tunisian strikes set up a nervy finish.
Nigeria dominated early, with Osimhen and Akor Adams testing the Tunisian defense. Osimhen had a goal disallowed for offside before Lookman provided a cross that Osimhen headed in to give Nigeria a 1–0 lead at half-time.
Five minutes into the second half, Ndidi headed in a corner from Lookman to double the lead. Lookman then scored in the 67th minute, making it 3–0. Tunisia responded with goals from Montassar Talbi and a penalty by Ali Abdi, making it 3–2.
