LeBron James teases major announcement with cryptic ‘Second Decision’ video

LeBron James on Monday sent the basketball world into a frenzy after posting a cryptic teaser hinting at a major announcement, Afrosport reports.

The Los Angeles Lakers star shared a video on social media titled “The Second Decision”, showing him seated across from another man on a basketball court with the caption: “The decision of all decisions. October 7th. 12pm EST.”

The post echoes his famous 2010 special, “The Decision”, when he revealed his move from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat.

Fans, meanwhile, believe the 40-year-old could be preparing to announce his retirement ahead of what would be his eighth season with the Lakers and 23rd NBA season — a feat no player has ever achieved.

However, James downplayed any talks of a retirement during last week’s NBA media day.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to be able to play the game that I love for another season,” he said. “However the journey lays out this year, I’m super-invested because I don’t know when the end is. I know it’s a lot sooner than later.”

“It’s pretty cool to know how many miles I’ve got and still be able to play at a high level,” James said. “For me, age is kind of just a number, but it is reality, too. You look at the history of the game, there’s not been many guys at my age, especially going into Year 23, that have been able to play at a level like that. I just try not to take it for granted and just try to give the game as much as I can, inspire whoever I can.”

James, who turns 41 in December, is widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time and holds some of the NBA’s most prestigious records. He is the league’s all-time leading scorer with 42,184 points and the first player in NBA history to surpass 50,000 combined points across regular season and play-off games.

He also holds the record for the most All-Star and All-NBA Team selections, with 21 apiece. Over his illustrious career, James has won four NBA titles, four League MVP awards, four Finals MVPs, and one NBA Cup championship.

Meanwhile, reports suggest James’ teaser has sparked a huge surge in ticket prices for the Lakers’ final home game of the 2025-26 regular season. The 17-time NBA champions are set to face the Utah Jazz at the Crypto.com Arena on 12 April 2026.

Before the announcement, the lowest ticket price was around $82, but according to Vivid Seats, single tickets now start at $580, with the cheapest get-in price soaring to $760.

The Lakers host the Golden State Warriors in their season opener on Tuesday, 21 October.
