The Super Eagles of Nigeria have slipped one spot in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings released on Thursday by the world football governing body, Afrosport reports.
Formerly ranked 44th in the world, Nigeria now occupies the 45th position. This drop also affects their standing on the continent, where they have fallen to sixth place among African teams.
Morocco remains the highest-ranked team in Africa, sitting in 11th place globally. They are followed by Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Cote d’Ivoire, all of whom are now ahead of Nigeria on the continental standings.
The Super Eagles were recently in action during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, recording a 1-0 win over Rwanda in Uyo before a 1-1 draw against South Africa in Bloemfontein, results that may have influenced their slide in the rankings.
On the global front, European champions Spain have climbed to the top of the world rankings, ending Argentina’s two-year reign at number one. France now occupy second place, while Argentina drop to third. England are ranked fourth, with Portugal moving up to fifth. Brazil, who have seen a dip in form, fall to sixth.
The Netherlands follow in seventh place, ahead of Belgium in eighth. Croatia have moved up to ninth, while Italy complete the global top ten.
