F1: Montreal, Singapore added to 2026 Sprint race schedule

Formula 1 have announced the six venues that will host Sprint races for the 2026 season, with Montreal and Singapore being added for the very first time, Afrosport reports.

The 2026 season will be the sixth year in a row the F1 calendar will have Sprint races, affirming its popularity among drivers, the paddock and fans.

The 2026 Sprint schedule will begin with the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai on March 14 followed by the Miami Grand Prix May 2, both featuring for the third year in a row.

This is followed by a maiden Sprint race at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal on May 23 while Silverstone returns for a Sprint race weekend on July 4 for the first time since the format’s introduction in 2021.

The Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort and the Singapore Grand Prix in Marina Bay complete the schedule on August 22 and October 10 respectively.

Speaking on the schedule, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said: “The F1 Sprint has continued to grow in positive impact and popularity since it was introduced in 2021. With four competitive sessions rather than two during a conventional Grand Prix weekend, F1 Sprint events offer more action each day for our fans, broadcast partners, and for the promoters – driving increased attendance and viewership.

“The 2026 season will usher in a new era of regulations, so having three new Sprint venues will only add to the drama on track. I want to thank the FIA, all the promoters, our partners, marshals, volunteers, and local sporting clubs for continuing to make the Sprint a big success and we all look forward to giving our fans more incredible racing and excitement in the 2026 season.”

F1 data revealed that TV viewership for Sprint race weekends was 10% bigger than non-Sprint weekends in 2024 with Lando Norris’ win in Miami last year watched by 26.6 million viewers, showing an 18% increase from the previous year.

Lewis Hamilton’s Sprint triumph in Shanghai this year witnessed an 84% TV audience increase in leading F1 markets while Max Verstappen’s win in Belgium saw a massive 182% boost among viewers in China.
