The Dallas Wings of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) have signed D’Tigress captain Amy Okonkwo to a seven-day hardship contract, Afrosport reports.
The 28-year-old forward arrives after inspiring Nigeria to victory at this year’s FIBA Women’s Afrobasket – the nation’s seventh title and a record fifth consecutive crown. Okonkwo was once again named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), repeating her feat from 2023.
A two-time Olympian, she also spearheaded the D’Tigress’ historic campaign at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where Nigeria became the first African nation – male or female – to reach the basketball quarter-finals at the Games.

Okonkwo spent the 2024–25 season in France with Bourges, averaging 14.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, while shooting close to 48% from three-point range. Earlier this year, she featured in pre-season with the Connecticut Sun on a training contract, averaging 7.0 points and 4.0 rebounds across two games.
A hardship contract is a special short-term roster exemption that permits WNBA teams to add a player beyond the standard 12-player limit when faced with multiple injuries or absences.
Okonkwo will be eligible for selection as Dallas (9-27) take on the Seattle Storm (18-18) on Friday at the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.
