Nigeria’s D’Tigress have stormed into the top 10 of the latest FIBA Women’s World Rankings, climbing to eighth place following their historic Women’s Afrobasket triumph earlier this month, Afrosport reports.
The ranking, released by FIBA on Thursday, confirms a three-place rise for the African champions, who cement their position as the continent’s No. 1 team and remain the only African side ever to feature in the global top 10.
The D’Tigress claimed their seventh Afrobasket crown after defeating Mali in the final at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. In doing so, they became the first team in history to win the competition five consecutive times.

Mali, runners-up in the Women’s Afrobasket, surged six places to 18th in the world and second in Africa. Senegal (25th, up two), Mozambique (32nd) and Cameroon (35th, up seven) complete Africa’s top five.
Elsewhere, Egypt (43rd, down six), Cote d’Ivoire (50th, up three), Angola (51st, down five), Uganda (53rd, down one) and South Sudan — who recorded the largest leap in the rankings, jumping 31 spots to 55th — round off the continent’s top 10.
The global top four remains unchanged, with Olympic champions the United States holding first place ahead of Australia, France, and China.
Belgium, back-to-back FIBA Women’s EuroBasket winners, moved into the top five for only the second time, overtaking Spain, who slipped to sixth after losing to the Belgian Cats in the final.
Canada (7th), Brazil (9th, up one), and Serbia (10th, down two) complete the world’s top 10.
