Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has passed his medical as he edges closer to a season-long loan move to Spanish giants Barcelona, Afrosport reports.
The England international touched down in Catalonia on Sunday night after getting the green light from United to wrap up the deal. He was spotted at Barca’s training ground on Monday, where he linked up with manager Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco.
United and Barcelona reached an agreement for the deal over the weekend, with Rashford keen on making the switch to the La Liga champions all summer long.
As part of the agreement, Barcelona will take on the full weight of his wages. The 27-year-old has accepted a 15% pay cut from his usual £325,000-per-week salary, and will earn £14 million over the 12-month loan. The deal also includes a purchase option worth just over £30m, with a £5m penalty fee attached to it.
Rashford fell out with United head coach Rubem Amorim last December after saying he was ready for a “new challenge”. He last played for the Red Devils in a Europa League match against Viktoria Plzen on 12 December and spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.
The move comes after Rashford’s relationship with United boss Rubem Amorim reportedly soured in late December, after declaring that he was “ready for a new challenge.”
He last featured for the Red Devils in a Europa League clash against Viktoria Plzen on 12 December, before securing a six-month loan move to Aston Villa, scoring four goals in 17 appearances for Unai Emery’s side.
A proud product of United’s youth academy, Rashford has scored 138 goals in 426 senior appearances. He now looks set to kickstart a new chapter in Spain, becoming Barcelona’s third summer signing after the arrivals of goalkeeper Joan Garcia and promising youngster Roony Bardghji.
He’s expected to be unveiled to the media on Wednesday, as Barcelona hope to finalise the move in time for their pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea – the Catalans will play Vissel Kobe, FC Seoul and Daegu over a 10-day period.
