Manchester United summer signing Matheus Cunha has been handed the number 10 shirt ahead of the 2025-26 season, Afrosport reports.
United have taken the number off English forward Marcus Rashford, who has worn it since 2018. He last played for the club in December, having spent the second half of the season on loan at Aston Villa.
Rashford, along with four others—Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, and Tyrell Malacia—has been informed by the club to delay their return to Carrington, with players expected to resume preseason training on Monday, 7 July.
The five players are in search of a move away from Old Trafford but are expected to return to the club in late July if a move fails to materialize.
Cunha, meanwhile, joined United in a £62.5 million deal from Wolverhampton Wanderers last month. He wore the No. 10 shirt at the Molineux last season.
The 26-year-old Brazilian follows a star-studded list of players who donned the iconic number at United, including the likes of Wayne Rooney, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Sir David Beckham, Teddy Sheringham, Mark Hughes, Sir Bobby Charlton, and Denis Law.
Ruben Amorim’s side will open preseason with a clash against Leeds United on 19 July before heading to the United States for a three-game tour.
