UEL: Ekitike, Porro on target as Tottenham, Frankfurt share spoils in first leg

Pedro Porro cancelled out an early strike from Hugo Ekitike as Tottenham Hotspur held Eintracht Frankfurt to a 1-1 draw in North London on Thursday, Afrosport reports.

Ekitike opened the scoring for Frankfurt in the sixth minute of their Europa League first-leg tie with a brilliant solo effort from outside the box. After James Maddison lost the ball on the other end, the Germans quickly worked it out to the left, with the French forward driving in before finding the bottom corner with a brilliant strike.

Spain international Porro drew Tottenham level in the 26th minute with a cheeky finish from close range. The fullback, who was picked out inside the box by Maddison, found the back of the net with a brilliant back-flick finish.

The hosts came close to completing their comeback 10 minutes into the second half restart, but Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall hit the post.

Spurs captain Son Heung-min was denied a brilliant goal in the 56th minute as his curling effort aimed at the far corner was thwarted away by 21-year-old goalkeeper Kaua Santos, who also denied Maddison’s close-range effort shortly after.

Santos was on hand once again to deny Ange Postecoglou’s side the winner, with the Brazilian parrying Micky van de Ven’s goal-bound header in stoppage time.

The two teams will rekindle their rivalry next Thursday at the Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt.

Meanwhile, Liam Kelly was the hero at the Ibrox Stadium, with a goalkeeper save on Alex Berenguer’s penalty as 10-man Rangers held Athletic Bilbao to a goalless draw.

Elsewhere, two second-half goals from Norwegian midfielder Ulrik Saltnes led Bodo/Glimt to a 2-0 first-leg win over Lazio at Aspmyra Stadion.
